MACMILLAN Cancer Support wants this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning to be the biggest ever and is hoping to raise £140,000 in Derbyshire.

Among those who have already signed up to host events is Carol Allcock, from Chelmorton, who last year raised £7,500.

Carol, who’s been taking part for over 20 years, is amongst the highest Coffee Morning fundraisers in the country, having raised over £40,000. She said: “We’ve all been touched by cancer in some way, seeing people really struggle and often losing those that mean a lot to us and I’m no exception.

“I first got involved many years ago by helping a friend host one. She suggested I had a go at my own and the next year I held my own at home and raised about £79!

“I then decided to hold it at the institute to encourage more people to come, it worked and with great support it’s gone from strength to strength!”

Tracy Townend, Macmillan fundraising manager for Derbyshire said: “Carol is simply inspirational and we can’t thank her enough for her incredible commitment, dedication, hard work and incredible amount of money raised over the years.”

The charity provides a cancer information centre at Blythe House Hospice, financial grants and benefits advice, a mobile cancer bus, Macmillan nurses and other specialist professionals.
