A 30–mile police chase through Buxton and the Derbyshire Dales came to an abrupt end in the sleepy village of Biggin after officers used stingers to stop a speeding car.
The pursuit started at 11.40pm on Thursday night when police received reports of a car speeding along the A6 at Darley Dale.
Officers searched the area and found a Fiat Punto matching the description of the vehicle driving along the road.
The force helicopter was sent to the area to track the car, which allowed specially trained police officers on the ground to follow the vehicle at a safe distance, along the quiet roads.
They followed the Fiat Punto as it travelled north to Buxton and then south along the A6 and then onto the A515.
Officers deployed a stinger and the Fiat stopped at the junction of the A515 and Main Street, Biggin, bringing the 30–mile pursuit to an end.
The driver a 21–year–old man from Chapel–en–le–Frith, was arrested and subsequently charged for suspicion of drink–driving, as well as failing to stop for police and theft of the car.
