Six High Peak schools have signed up to the CANparent scheme, with sessions to take place from the autumn.

The scheme is designed to give parents and carers a better understanding of how children develop and how they can better understand their children.

Free sessions will be held at Buxton Infants School, Buxton Junior School, Fairfield Infants School, Buxworth Primary School, New Mills Primary School and Chapel-en-le-Frith Primary School.

Parents can also attend an open group at Harpur Hill Children’s Centre, Buxton, from September 24.

Rachel Harman, of High Peak CVS, who is co-ordinating local CANparent groups, said: “We want to bring this great resource to as many local parents as we can, and are working on increasing the number of groups open to all parents from the new year, in schools and other settings.”

Sue Storer, a teaching assistant at Buxton Infants School, who has been running the groups for the past year, added: “It breaks down barriers so well between us and the parents.”
