A police community support officer who has spent more than ten years policing the communities of New Mills and Hayfield is set to take on a new challenge in Glossop.

PCSO Will Brockett has spent 11 years of his policing career with the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team and has spent his time building relationships with the local community to help tackle issues that matter to them the most.

Earlier this week, PCSO Brockett finished his last shift with the New Mills and Hayfield team and is soon to take on a new challenge as he takes to the beat in Glossop Town Centre.

During his time in New Mills, PCSO Brockett won with the Safer Neighbourhood Team of the Year 2013 award alongside his colleagues for their work in tackling anti-social behaviour, cross-border criminals and drugs issues in the town.

The team were all commended for engaging with emerging communities and local residents to build strong relationships and ease community tensions, along with using social media to spread policing messages.

PCSO Will Brockett said: “I have loved working in New Mills and Hayfield; the past 11 years have been fantastic. I was raised in New Mills so it was an amazing opportunity to police my local community and understand the issues that matter to local people and how best we can tackle that.

“On a personal note I would like to thank the communities and our partners for their support during my time here on the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team.

“I am looking forward to joining the Glossop Safer Neighbourhood Team to take on new community challenges to help make improvements for the better. Over the coming weeks and months I will be heading out to get to know the town better and the people that live, work and visit here.”
