The Dove Holes Carnival will no longer be going ahead but the committee are still looking after families and have organised a fundraiser to make a little boy who has cancer dreams come true.

The revived carnival returned to the village in 2008 but due to lack of support and funding decided to call it a day.

Committee member Sally Tideswell said: “It was a tough decision to make but we still wanted to give back to the community and when we heard how Leighton wanted to go to Disneyland in Florida we knew we wanted to help him get there.”
Leighton Jones was diagnosed with lymphoblastic lymphoma leukaemia on December 4, last year.

The Dove Hole Primary pupil is not very well at the minute after undergoing an intensive chemotherapy programme, he asked his mum if when he is better the family can go to Disneyland.

However, the cost is £6,000 and out of the family’s price range so various fundraising activities have been organised.

The carnival committee has planned a Disney themed night at the Queen’s Hotel in Dove Holes on Saturday, Juen 18 from 7.30pm where there will be live music, food and fun and games as well as an outside bar and children’s entertainment,

Sally said: “There is a family in Dove Holes that is struggling and this is what the carnival was about - helping people in Dove Holes and the surrounding areas.

“It is about giving something back to the community and this little lad, who has already been through so much, wants to go to Disneyland we will do all we can to try and get him there.”

Sally added: “It is a tough time for everyone and we just want people to come out and support this brave family.
