NHS complaints service to be set up by council

From next April, all local authorities, including Derbyshire County Council, will take over responsibility for providing an Independent Complaints Advisory Service (ICAS) from the Department of Health.

The role of ICAS is to support people who want to make a complaint about their NHS-funded treatment or care.

It is a free, confidential and independent service designed to help people understand their rights and make informed choices.

Derbyshire County Council will now team up with other local authorities from across the East Midlands to find the best way of providing this service from April 2013.
