A HIGH Peak woman is organising a fund-raising evening in aid of a charity which gave her a second chance to become a mum.

Ciara Curran and her partner Phil Speakman were left devastated in April 2010 when their first baby Sinead was stillborn, following complications caused by preterm premature rupture of the membranes (PPROM) and the infection Group B Strep.

But out of the tragedy came hope thanks to the invaluable research and support into pregnancy problems by leading baby charity Tommy’s, which Ciara credits for helping her carry to full term, and give birth, to her daughter Siobhan.

Ciara, from Chinley, has now pledged to raise thousands of pounds for the charity, and is holding a fund-raising event in New Mills on Saturday December 29 at The Art Lounge, which is located upstairs at the Beehive Inn on Albion Road.

The evening, which starts at 7pm and is free to attend, will feature live music by Gypsy Jazz, a raffle and auction.

Ciara said: “I lost my first born in 2010, who was sadly stillborn, but the research by Tommy’s into stillbirth, premature birth and miscarriage has essentially helped me to become a mum.

“As well as collecting lots of money for this worthwhile charity, I hope we can raise the profile of a little-known organisation whose aim is to help people have healthy pregnancies.”

Auction prizes up for grabs at the December 29 fundraiser include a Tim Hensel Photography shoot, a signed picture of Manchester United footballer Tom Cleverley, memberships to New Mills Leisure Centre, fitness classes, a first-aid course, a go-karting experience and a dinner for two at Conti restaurant in Disley.

Ciara added: “We are not charging any admission fee because we want as many people as possible to come along, have a good time and help us raise as much as possible.”

Earlier this year, Ciara and her partner completed the Great North Run, raising £1,800 for Tommy’s. And Ciara hopes to attempt the London Marathon next year, in addition to organising other fund-raising events.

Anyone unable to attend the event, but who would like to participate in the auction, can submit a sealed bid by calling 07877 075976 or emailing ciara_curran@hotmail.com.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so via Ciara’s Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/teams/pprom.
