Help with long-term ilnesses

PEOPLE living with long- term health conditions in Buxton are being invited to sign up for a free course to help build their confidence and take more control of their health and life.

The course, run by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, will be held each Thursday afternoon for six weeks, starting on September 15.

Sessions will be held at The Library, Kent’s Bank Road, Buxton, between 1pm and 3.30pm and will be led by course leaders who themselves live with long-term conditions.

Patients with illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and arthritis – among others – are invited to sign up. Places are limited and need to be booked in advance.

Julie Lomas, Project Co-ordinator at Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, said: “These courses are free and they can help some very vulnerable people in our community to get their confidence back and not let pain, fatigue, depression or other symptoms dictate their lives.”
