A NEW falls prevention class has been set up in Buxton.
The classes take place at Buxton Methodist Church every Friday from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
Open to any older people with health or mobility problems; people who have fallen or have a fear of falling; GPs or practice nurses or people who have been through the hospital falls prevention interventions, the class starts with chair based exercises with resistance exercises to increase muscle strength, progressing to standing balance work where appropriate. Run by Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, the sessions will be adapted to suit ability, and cost £3.30.
The aim is to reduce the risk of falls, improve strength, balance and co-ordination, and reduce the anxiety and fear of falling.
