Runners in Buxton are set to be given a new challenge this autumn when the inaugural Buxton 5k “Poppy Run” is held on Saturday October 31 in the town’s Pavilion Gardens.

The event, sponsored by the Buxton branch of the Royal British Legion and Buxton Athletics Club, will be in aid of the annual Poppy Appeal.

Organisers say they hope the run will become an annual fixture where local runners can raise money for members of the military community past and present.

The five kilometre course is three times around the central pathways of the Pavilion Gardens. It will be open to all ages for a fee of £10 per adult and £5 per child and each finisher will be awarded a medal, water and a goody bag.

Those interested in taking part should send a stamped addressed envelope to the secretary of the Royal British Legion, 29 Pictor Road, Buxton, SK17 5TG.
