Thirteen-year-old Sheridan Lomas has been chosen as this year’s Hayfield May Queen.

Sheridan was chosen for the role at a voting and exhibition day held at the Royal Hotel in Hayfield. This year’s Princess elect is Poppy Paton, aged nine, with five-year-old Amber Cuthbert as Rosebud.

The voting day was well attended with over 250 people from the village casting their votes for this year’s May Queen. Results were announced at the children’s disco in the evening and Hayfield May Queen Committee would like to thank everyone who voted.

Preparations are now underway to organise the May Queen Festival weekend which will this year be held on Saturday May 18 and Sunday May 19.

Committee numbers have dwindled dramatically over the past few months so organising this year’s parade and field events will be a challenge to remaining members.

Anyone who would like to join the committee or just volunteer to help in the run-up to the festival or over May Queen weekend, would be welcome.
