The first floor of Buxton’s Wetherspoon pub could be renovated into luxury hotel rooms, after plans for the £650,000 scheme received the green light.
High Peak Borough Council has granted the pub chain permission for the proposed renovation of the under-developed first floor of The Wye Bridge House, on Fairfield Road, into luxury hotel rooms.
The application, which was determined last month, concerns an area of the building which has been previously used for a mixture of storage and ancillary staff rooms.
Spokesman Eddie Gershon said Wetherspoon had not yet fully committed to opening a hotel at the Buxton pub, but had carried out a feasibility study.
“The scheme being considered for Buxton comprises eight bedrooms and would result in a £650,000 investment project,” he said.
“Wetherspoon management will be reviewing the scheme in the near future, however although there are no current plans to build a hotel at the pub at present, it is a consideration for the future.”
Documents submitted in support of the application stated that the proposed development would have various sized boutique hotel rooms, each with an adjoining en-suite, and that work would be “to a very high specification”.
