ROMANCE blossomed for pen pals Ray and Pauline Dunscombe, who last week celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

The doting couple married at St Peter’s Church, Fairfield, on March 25, 1961.

Pauline, 71, recalls how they met: “I started to write to Ray while he was serving in Cyprus with the Army.

“When he came home on leave, we met up – and we’ve been together ever since.”

A craftsman in the Army, Ray, 72, served for three years. He then worked for the Arnold Brassington furniture business, taking over the removal and storage side in 1968. The couple still have a hand in the business.

Over the years, Pauline has worked for Woolworths and Bunka’s corner shop.

The couple, of Spring Gardens, have three children and four grandchildren. They have been staunch supporters of Buxton Working Men’s Club, Ashwood Park Bowling Club and Buxton FC.
