At St Thomas More School in Buxton, students were jumping for joy after achieving fantastic results in their GCSEs.

Among them was 16-year-old Andrew Oldfield, who was one of the school’s top achievers with a range of A* and A grades under his belt.

He said: “I’ve done really well, I’m really pleased with it. I did a lot of work before hand and its obviously paid off.”

Andrew will now attend Aquinas College in Stockport to do A Levels in maths, biology, chemistry and further maths.

Fellow student Sorcha Heelan is off to Lady Manners School in Bakewell after scoring nine A*s and A.

Headteacher Brendan Hickey said: “We are very pleased. There are some fantastic individual results.

“The students have worked hard for them.”
