A charity football match is taking place this weekend in memory of a Buxton woman who lost her battle against cancer earlier this year.

Kate Element was just 33 when she passed away, leaving behind a large network of family and friends including her partner Neil Pilkington and their one-year-old son Archie.

Now her friends and family have joined forces to arrange the fundraising event, which is taking place at Buxton Football Club’s Silverlands ground on Sunday.

Gates open at 12 noon and the first match will see Buxton Vikings Juniors take on New Mills Juniors at 1pm before a match involving men dressed as women at 3pm.

Entry costs £2 for adults, with children free.

The bar at the Silverlands will be open from 2pm to midnight and there will also be a variety of other activities taking place to help raise as much money as possible for Ashgate Hospice.

A silly hat competition is taking place with a prize on offer for the winner, and entry into the competition is £1.

There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by several local businesses, a tombola, face painting, a bouncy castle, live music and karaoke.

A Buxton’s Got Talent competition is also taking place, costing £2.50 to enter, and is open to anyone who thinks they’ve got what it takes, whether their talent is singing, dancing or something else.

All proceeds raised from the event will go to Ashgate Hospice, which provided help and support for Kate during her battle with the disease.
