Fund-raising can be fun, young are told

Have your say

Blythe House Hospice will be holding their first ‘young fundraiser’ event on Sunday, May 6, at Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens.

“Face Paint and Fancy Dress” is a sponsored walk around the park for anyone under the age of 18, accompanied by a supervising adult, to help raise funds for the Hospice.

Fundraising Manager Lucy Marsden is calling on young people in the High Peak to join in.

“Young Fundraisers around the High Peak have an excellent track record of raising funds for Blythe House and so we thought it was time for us to do an event dedicated to young people,” she said. “Sadly, the work we do at the Hospice touches on the lives of several young people every year but many people think of what we do as being confined to an older generation.”

Each participant in “Face Paint and Fancy Dress” will receive free annual subscription to the new Blythe House Hospice young fundraisers club as well as a small goody bag upon completion of the walk. Entry costs £2.50 for each person and Blythe House hopes that each entrant can raise a minimum of £25 sponsorship. The walk starts at 3pm and is approximately one mile long. Prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs are welcome.

Event Co-ordinator Chantal Hannell said: “The Hospice is hoping that local schools, nurseries and groups may wish to become involved and work together with the hospice to introduce fundraising to their children. With our experience in dealing with young people affected by illness in their lives, we are well placed to introduce this topic to children through an informal talk or even an assembly.”
