Former Buxton mayor dies

Former Buxton mayor Arthur Robinson passed away peacefully at his home on Victoria Park Road this morning (Tuesday).

The 88-year-old served as mayor of Buxton for a year from May 1970, as well as being deputy mayor three times.

He was also a Buxton town councillor and Derbyshire County councillor and spent almost 50 years working on the railways.

A grandfather-of-two, Arthur was married to Joan for 66 years, after they met as teenagers at a dance in New Mills Town Hall.

They married three years later at Thornsett Independent Chapel and celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary in 2007.

A keen gardener, Arthur leaves behind his wife Joan, son Andrew and grandchildren Sophie and William.
