Children in Years 5 and 6 at Burbage Primary School were enthralled and entertained by a visit from Floella Benjamin – author, actress, TV presenter, film and television producer and Baroness!

Floella was invited to the school to talk about her biography “Coming to England”, which the children are reading, as part of their studies in literature and the topic theme “Pride and Prejudice”.

During the afternoon Floella shared her experiences and beliefs and inspired the children to believe in themselves as leaders and achievers.

She totally captured their attention with stories, songs, achievements and anecdotes from her childhood in Trinidad, moving to England in the 1960s and her work today as a member of the House of Lords and promoter of British-produced Children’s television.

After her visit Floella tweeted: “Got a wonderful welcome at Burbage Primary School Buxton and left knowing the children are going to make a difference to the world one day.”
