FACING a race against time to create a lasting tribute to The Queen have been Dove Holes-based Leander.

The High Peak firm were commissioned in early May by the Commonwealth Secretariat to create a bronze plaque to be unveiled as part of the Jubilee celebrations.

Ted McAvoy, from Leander said:

“It is a thank-you from all the Commonwealth countries for all the work she has done.”

The 64 polished strips form a giant letter “C” with text in the middle thanking the Queen for her 60 years of service to the Commonwealth.

The Commonwealth Secretariat said they were delighted with the five foot bronze plaque, which was delivered to London on Thursday.
