SNOW is falling across Buxton and the High Peak as January’s big freeze bites.

Residents woke up to a dusting snow in Buxton this morning – and weather forecasters have issued an alert warning of more wintry weather for the area today (Monday).

There are no reported school or road closures in the High Peak but a Met Office spokesman said: “The public is advised to be aware of disruption to travel and take extra care.”

A Derbyshire County Council spokesman said: “Over the past 12 hours our gritters have completed 29 routes to help keep the area’s roads clear.”

The council added that volunteers were gritting and clearing snow from pavements and public places in communities across the area.

This morning, ITV’s breakfast show Daybreak and Sky News were reporting on the snow in Buxton.
