First credit union opens in High Peak

The first credit union in the High Peak has opened its doors.

The move by Manchester Credit Union has been supported by High Peak Community Housing, High Peak Borough Council and local health organisations.

Leader of HPBC Councillor Caitlin Bisknell said: “As a not-for-profit organisation they care more about the community than making money, and are a positive alternative to the doorstep lenders and pay-day loan companies that charge people extremely high rates of interest.”

MCU’s Chief Executive, Christine Moore said: “Credit unions can help people in financial hardship, or just people who would rather have an alternative to banks.”
