CHRISTMAS came early for visitors to a New Mills church.

A five-day Christmas tree and crib festival took place earlier this month at St George’s Parish Church and has been hailed by organisers as a tree-mendous success!

The biennial event also featured a range of activities and attractions for all ages, from colouring, craft and story sessions to performances by the New Mills Art Theatre’s cast of Oliver and Carolyn Hawkins & The Silver Belles.

Barbara Matthews, fundraising committee chairperson for St George’s Church, said: “We were very pleased with the event.

“It was well-attended and we received a wonderful amount of people exhibiting the trees.”

A new festive attraction this year was also a display of nativity scene cribs alongside the decorated Christmas trees.
