CANOEING, circuit training, dancing, hockey, yoga, meditation and nursery rhyme olympics are just a few of the activities children were involved in during Burbage Primary School's 'fit and healthy' week.

A display by a British Olympic Gymnast was a particular highlight for many children and a day's skipping workshop, won by collecting Sainsbury's vouchers, increased enthusiasm for skipping in the playground.

Children and staff were encouraged to eat healthily, thanks to Matt Timms from 'Greengages' who provided staff with a delicious homemade healthy lunch .

Children in Mr John Corbett's class totalled up their exercise over the five days and found that they had walked the 275km to London!

The week culminated in all school pupils walking to Solomon's Temple. Parents and siblings were invited to join in the fun and bring a picnic.

Andrew Guttmann, Headteacher, said: "The whole week has been a tremendous success. The children have taken part in lots of events which, hopefully, they may wish to pursue in their free time outside school."
