Snow prepares Amanda for trek
THE hills around the High Peak have provided the perfect training ground for a Buxton woman who is to trek through the Himalayas for charity in April.
Amanda Rhodes, is looking at raising as much money as she can through sponsorship for Cancer Research UK.
"I have funded the trip myself so 100% of my sponsorship money goes to my chosen charity," explained Amanda who will spend ten days trekking.
"It will involve trekking for seven hours a day and climbing to an altitude of 3500m. I have been putting in a lot of training to make sure I'm able to complete the challenge successfully."
Training in the evenings and weekends including walks in the Goyt Valley have continued throughout the recent wintry weather: "It has not been very nice weather but it will make sure I am ready for it."
A music night on March 14 at the Railway Hotel, Buxton is being held to boost funds being raised for Cancer Research UK by Buxton woman Amanda Rhodes.
Local band Long in the Tooth, and DJ Ryan will be performing, and there will be a raffle on the night will all prizes generously donated by local people and businesses.
The tickets cost 4 and are available from Amanda or on the door.
To buy tickets or to donate to the fundraising, contact Amanda on 07800 554090
All the money raised through sponsorship and events that have been planned will go to Cancer Research UK.
Explaining why she chose the charity, Amanda said: "I just think they do a fantastic job and need all the support they can get."
