Exchange visit
FORTY-FOUR students aged between 12-18 and 4 teachers have visited New Mills on the return leg of the Exchange visit between New Mills School and two Alsfeld schools, the Geschwister Scholl Schule and the Albert Schweizer Schule. New Mills students visited Alsfeld last year.
German students stayed with their English partners in their homes and spent the days in school and visiting local attractions such as Castleton, Chatsworth, and a little further afield to Manchester and Liverpool, finishing with a farewell party.
Many of the Germans enjoyed the delightful lantern procession held at the end of the New Mills festival.
Alsfeld is the twin town of New Mills and the exchange has been in existence for about 40 years. Head teacher, Jesse Elms, said "It is important for pupils to gain an understanding of different languages and cultures. The exchange programme is a unique and important opportunity to experience life in a different country."
He thanked all who provided hospitality and to Councillor Beth Atkins, who helped to welcome the German students and teachers at a reception in school.
