Chapel fun day brings hundreds back to school
MORE than 1,000 guests from across the country enjoyed the wealth of fun educational activities at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School's annual Family Fun Day.
Building on the success of recent years, the free, day-long event drew visitors of all ages from across the High Peak and the wider county.
During the day, they were invited to participate in potion making, rocket building, car design, animal handling, cooking, hovercraft launches… the list went on.
Headteacher Stuart Ash was delighted by the turn out.
"I'm clearly really thrilled", said Mr Ash. "This is the culmination of a great deal of work by many people – staff and students. But we see the look on the faces of those youngsters watching exploding custard or handling wild animals and we know it has all been worth it."
"These kids and their parents and grandparents are not only learning, they're enjoying learning and gaining an understanding of science, maths and technology in the process. For a free day out, I think that's excellent and we're really proud of this event and all that it does for our community."
Guests were similarly delighted by what they saw. Gareth Panter was visiting from Cambridgeshire: "We were passing, saw the sign and came in. It's really astonished us. My son's just been to a really fun session on the history of science as seen through weaponry and warfare – really informative, he's loved it. And my wife and I have been cooking with our daughter. She's made rock buns and you'd think she was Jamie Oliver from the look on her face!"
And next year, the school promises, the event will be even bigger and even better.
