Bring back floral glory..

WHAT a breath of fresh air Joan Nadin's letter was (re: Buxton Advertiser, May 1).

A Buxtonian proud to recognise the benefits of such a wonderful facility - the Pavilion Gardens Conservatory.

The flower displays in the Pavilion Gardens are spectacular, but the continued closure of the conservatory in the run-up to the summer season needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.

The closure of the facility has been such a loss to the people of High Peak and beyond.

I particularly miss the beautiful fragrances which enhanced the senses, and led to a feeling of well-being.

I feel that the decision to carry out essential structural repairs to the conservatory is to be welcomed.

But, I would also ask the council to recognise the expertise and dedication of the long-serving gardener who has provided excellent service over many years.

Also, to ensure that the rare and unusual fixed planting is given adequate protection during the renovation period.

I would argue that there is also a need to increase the budget for planting schemes to bring the facility back to its former glory.

The Pavilion Gardens complex is of national and international importance. It improves health and well-being – a wonderful tonic!

The extension of free car parking on Sundays for High Peak residents will enable more local people to enjoy this important tourist attraction – maybe visiting St John's Church too.
