Flooding awareness event

The Environment Agency is staging an awareness event to support communities at risk of flash flooding in Whaley Bridge and the surrounding areas.

Taking place at 7.30pm to 9pm on August 6 at Whaley Bridge Uniting Church, on Buxton Road, the event will provide information and guidance on recognising the signs of flash flooding, how to prepare and what actions to take if a flash flood occurs.

Flash flooding can occur suddenly with little or no warning, often before the emergency services have time to arrive.

It tends to happen when heavy rainfall runs off land and quickly swells rivers.
