ENTRIES are being invited for Buxton’s fifth annual poetry competition, which this year has the theme of Welcome to Britain.
There are three categories: Open Poetry for poets aged 19 and over, Young People’s Poetry for poets between 12 and 18, or Children’s Poetry for those aged 11 and under and the deadline for entries is April 6.
Competition organiser Claire Rhodes said: “We chose Welcome to Britain to explore what is special about the UK and our national identity in a year that brings us the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.”
The competition is run by Buxton Festival and the University of Derby Buxton. Cash prizes totalling £600 should tempt entrants to the Open Category. Winning poems will be exhibited at the University of Derby’s Buxton Campus during Buxton Festival.
Entries are free for the Children and Young People’s categories. Entry packs are available from www.derby.ac.uk/buxtonpoetrycompetition or from Claire Rhodes on 01298 70395 or email email@example.com.
