Firefighters were called to a blaze in a Hathersage bedroom.
The crews from Hathersage and Bradwell attended Crossland Road after receiving an emergency call at 8.17pm on Wednesday.
The crews used two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire.
A fire investigation was carried out and the cause was found to be an electric blanket that had overheated.
Station Manager Alan Richmond said: “Fortunately for the female occupant she awoke to find smoke in her room, this was extremely lucky as she had no fitted smoke alarms.
“Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service therefor recommends that working smoke alarms are fitted in all levels of your house.”
