Buxton’s Eilish Hoole has been shortlisted for the prestigious Tesco Mum of the Year Awards 2014.

The 46-year-old will go head-to-head with women from across the UK to take the title, after beating off stiff competition from thousands of nominations.

Mum-of-five Eilish was running her own beauty business when she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in 2007. Since then, she has campaigned tirelessly to raise awareness of the symptoms of the disease, even addressing MPs in Parliament.

Eilish, who is still undergoing treatment for the disease, said: “I was shocked and surprised when I found out I’d been shortlisted for the award out of 6,000 women.

“If I get through to the next stage then it is not just for me and the kids, it is for everyone who has raised awareness and for other women. We wouldn’t want any other family going through the same thing we have gone through.”

Judging for the awards will take place in October and November. All shortlisted mums will be considered by the panel, which includes DJ Sara Cox, TV personality Gaby Logan and sports presenter Denise Lewis.

If Eilish is selected as a winning mum, she will be treated to a full makeover and her own Tesco Living magazine photo shoot. The awards ceremony will take place at London’s Savoy Hotel in March.
