Young people go to the polls

COMPETITION is hotting up for places on the Derbyshire Youth Council as young people prepare to go to the polls.

The Big Vote is held every two years and gives youngsters aged 11 to 18 the chance to represent their peers.

This year, 205 young people will compete for 55 places on Derbyshire Youth Council. Voting will take place from Monday March 19 until Friday March 23.

Results will be announced at County Hall, Matlock on Thursday March 29.

Nineteen youth council members will then be elected onto the youth council cabinet, with two members drawn from each of the eight districts in the county.

There will also be three members to represent special schools, looked after children and a Children’s Trust representative.
