QUALIFICATIONS, new career skills, and fun are available through Derbyshire County Council’s latest education courses.

The council’s new adult community education brochures for the autumn term – which starts on September 12 – are now available.

Childcare and teaching assistant courses, cookery, computing and a wide range of crafts are some of the courses on offer.

Healthy living options range from Tai Chi, Pilates, Zumba, fitness, food safety and organic gardening.

Languages include Japanese, Spanish, Italian, French and Greek.

Green living courses – including sustainable building and renewable energy – are among those run at the county council’s Derbyshire Eco Centre, where you can also learn about natural history.

The Wirksworth venue also offers DIY and plumbing for women courses.

New ‘Limestone Journey’ courses give the opportunity to learn about the natural environment.

Councillor Mike Longden, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education, said: “Whether it is qualifications, the chance to get fit, or have fun and meet new people, our huge range of courses offer something for everyone.

“We continue to offer all our learners a warm welcome, excellent tuition, great value for money, and all the support and advice they need.

“I’d urge people to take a look at our website or pick up a brochure to find out what could suit them.”

Skills for Life courses in English and maths and most family learning courses are free of charge. Discounted courses are on offer for low income earners and anyone paying before 16 September will receive a 10% discount on course costs.

A new online course search makes it even easier to find something to suit. Go to www.derbyshire.gov.uk/adulteducation

Brochures can also be browsed on the website, ordered from Call Derbyshire 08456 058 058, or collected from any library, reception at County Hall in Matlock, or adult community education centres.

Free one-to-one advice sessions are available for people needing advice on what courses to take – whether it is for career or leisure.
