RAIL commuters at the refurbished Whaley Bridge Station are sure to be chuffed with the creative talents of local children.

Pupils from Taxal & Fernilee Primary School have helped design and create a new piece of artwork, which has become a permanent fixture in the waiting room on the Manchester-bound platform.

The created a watercolour painting of a train, using matchsticks for the locomotive.

Teacher Richard Atherton said: “The children are only aged six and seven, so they have done exceptionally well to create such a lovely piece of artwork.”

The school worked in partnership with the Friends of Whaley Bridge Station, who paid a visit to the school to talk to pupils.
