ST Thomas More Catholic School is yet again celebrating excellent GCSE results with 84 per cent of its year 11s gaining five or more A* to C grades.

Headteacher, Brendan Hickey was delighted. “It is great to see so many of our students achieving excellent grades,” he said.

“We have had a wide range of abilities in this year group and they have performed extremely well. Over 41 per cent of them achieved A* or A grades in three or more subjects. This is the second year in a row the school has achieved this.

“It is a fitting end to a marvellous year for this cohort. They have shown themselves to be outstanding in sport with the National Basketball Competition, fantastic at music with numerous awards and now they have shown that they can also perform academically.”

He added: “They have been a lovely group of young people – an excellent advert for the youth of today. Congratulations to all the 2011 year 11 students and to the staff, parents and governors who have supported them on the way.”
