Disley Paralympian Sarah Storey has been named Tesco Living’s celebrity mum of the year.
The Paralympic cyclist was honoured alongside seven other mothers after beating off 6,000 entries at the ninth annual ceremony in London at the weekend.
Dame Sarah, who gave birth to Louisa in June, has won 11 gold medals in four Paralympic Games in both swimming and cycling.
The 36-year-old said on Twitter: “Lovely night in London with Louisa! First girls night away! Thank you to everyone from Tesco Mum of the Year, humbled to be an award winner.”
The judges said: “Not only is Sarah a new mother and an elite athlete, she is a prolific fundraiser and inspiring role model to children, young people and adults too.”
Sarah was back in the saddle six weeks after giving birth to her daughter.
She said: “I’ve got an amazing husband and amazing parents too. Between the four of us we make sure Louisa’s well looked after and that my training doesn’t suffer either.”
Sarah, who won four gold medals at the London Paralympics, had an emergency Caesarean section, but says she is now feeling as fit as she was before she became a mum.
She has come close to selection for the Olympic Games and now has her sights set on Rio in 2016.
Before then, Sarah is competing at the World Championships in Mexico next month and then concentrating on the 2014 road race season.
She and her husband cyclist Barney Storey have set up the Pearl Izumi Sports Tours International Cycling Team, which supports the charity Boot Out Breast Cancer.
