HUNDREDS of people gathered in Buxton on Sunday as the annual Blessing of the Wells service took place.
The event began with a service at St Ann’s Church on Bath Road before proceeding to the Market Place Well, the Children’s Well in Spring Gardens and St Ann’s Well. Representatives of local clergy conducted a short service at each well and music was provided by Fairfield Band.
The civic procession, which included High Peak Mayor Cllr Pat Jenner, the 2011 Well Dressing Festival Queen Danielle Thurlow and her retinue and a host of other local dignitaries, then made its way to St John’s Church where the 2012 Well Dressing Queen Lauren-May Lomas, Rosebud Mia Grace Voigt, Pageboy Alexander Berry and attendants Ayisha Leoni Borra, Eleanor Mae MacMillan and Faye Kebbell were crowned by former MP Edwina Currie.
And in recognition of the Diamond Jubilee year, among those who attended the crowning service were around 30 past Buxton Well Dressing Festival Queens.
The Blessing of the Wells service kicked off a week-long series of events to mark the annual Well Dressing Festival, culminating in the carnival on Saturday afternoon.
