FOUR men have been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries in connection with the theft of lead from two High Peak churches.
Sometime between 7pm on Sunday and 8.30am on Monday, offenders climbed onto the gable end and apex of St Peter’s Church, Fairfield, and stole lead flashing from the roof.
And between 12.50am and 1.10am on Monday morning, police were called to St Thomas Becket Church in Chapel after a woman reported seeing someone on the roof.
Officers arrived and found considerable damage to the roof where lead had been taken.
Police searched the area and four men, two aged 33 and two aged 24, were found in two separate cars nearby,
They were arrested and have been bailed pending further enquiries.
