Man arrested over New Mills ram raid

A man has been arrested by police investigating a ram raid at the Sainsbury’s store, in New Mills.

A red car was driven into the front doors of the store on Torr Top Street at about 1.30am on Tuesday morning.

Two offenders wearing dark clothing and balaclavas then went into the store and fled with a quantity of cigarettes.

A police spokeswoman said: “A man was arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of being involved in the ram raid and he will be questioned today (Wednesday).”
