Fined £90 for buying booze for teenagers

A man has been slapped with a £90 fine after supplying alcohol to two teenagers.

The 61-year-old purchased the drink after being approached by the 17-year-old boys on Torr Top Street in New Mills.

PCSO Lee Baker, from New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “People who supply alcohol for under-18s are breaking the law. Not only could they end up with a £90 fine and further prosecution, they could be putting young lives at risk.”

Police patrols in the area have been stepped up as part of a campaign to curb alcohol-related crime.
