AN AGGRAVATED burglary, in which a Bradwell woman was threatened with a knife, is to feature on an episode of the BBC’s Crimewatch programme tonight (Tuesday).

Detectives investigating the case hope the appeal, which will be screened on BBC One at 9pm, will bring forward new information.

The 66-year-old woman was upstairs at her home in Netherside at about 6.30pm on Wednesday February 23 when she realised a man was standing behind her, holding a knife. He threatened her and she ran past him and down the stairs. He followed her and punched her in the face before running off. He had stolen cash from the house.

The victim suffered bruising to her arm, a cut lip and pain to her face.

Detective Constable Derek Ellis said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim, who was understandably left very shaken and upset by what happened. It is our hope that the Crimewatch appeal will jog memories and bring forward new information.”

The robber was described as white and of slim to medium build. He wore a black balaclava and a long sleeve grey sweatshirt with white writing on the chest.

Police arrested two men, aged 19 and 18, in connection with the incident, but they were later released without charge.
