POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a substantial amount of copper cable was stolen from a former Glossop care home.
Thieves are understood to have raided the Partington Care Home, on North Road, moving through the 38 bedrooms and tearing down ceilings in order to access the copper.
The theft happened sometime over the past fortnight, with entry being gained through a second-floor window.
A spokeswoman for Derbyshire police said: “It looks as though each of the rooms has been emptied and ceilings have been torn down in order to access the copper within the cabling.”
The thieves are then believed to have exited the property, which has been closed for the past nine months, through the boarded-up front door.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Derbyshire police on 0345 123 33 33 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
