AN alcoholic admitted assaulting him mother during an argument at his home, a court heard.
Carl Alfred Whittle, 28, of Market Street, Hayfield, threw a wooden ashtray while drunk which had struck his mother Jean Whittle on the left side of her face.
She had become involved in an row between Whittle and his brother.
When interviewed by police, Whittle, who is partially blind, admitted that he had thrown the ashtray but had not been aiming at his mother.
Whittle, who represented himself, said he had been to the doctors to seek help with anger management issues.
“My family know how to wind me up,” he told the court.
Magistrates adjourned the case until January 16 for pre-sentence reports to be prepared. They were the told Whittle was in breach of a conditional discharge imposed after he assaulted his brother.
