One of Disley’s key public buildings is now under the ownership of the parish council.
As part of Cheshire East Council’s programme of transfer and devolution of assets and services, Disley Community Centre will now be managed and maintained by Disley Parish Council.
It follows productive talks between the two authorities to complete the move, which is in keeping with the Government’s localism agenda.
Councillor Diane Guy, Chairman of Disley Parish Council, added: “The parish council is absolutely delighted to have completed the transfer of Disley Community Centre. It is something we have been looking to achieve for some time.
“We will be taking over the ownership and management of the building and we feel that we can provide a better service at a local level for the centre users and also the village as a whole.”
Councillor Rachel Bailey, Cheshire East Cabinet member with responsibility for safer and stronger communities, said: “I am confident that Disley Community Centre will be successfully managed by the parish council and we believe it is best placed to run the facility for the benefit of the people of Disley.
“Cheshire East Council is mindful that all town and parish councils need to be in a fit and proper position before they can hit the ground running with the transfer of assets and services and it continues to work positively with them.”
