DERBYSHIRE Dales District Council has given a £3,000 grant to support a new play area for youngsters in Chelmorton.

The project was spearheaded by Chelmorton Parish Council.

Council Chairman Councillor Charles Marsden said: “We are delighted that an adventure playground has been provided and this is attracting more children, parents and grandparents.

“It has become a real community space, which is important in a village like Chelmorton. We are extremely grateful to the District Council for their support and funding.”

The District Council provided the grant from its Play Development Fund, set up to improve play facilities in rural areas.

DDDC Chairman Cllr Tony Millward said: “Promoting safe and healthy communities is one of the District Council’s priorities and I am delighted we have provided funding to enable another village to set up a play area for young people to enjoy.

“It’s a really superb space, including an area for parents and grandparents to keep an eye on the children.”
