Cool it appeal after cat is shot

POLICE in New Mills are appealing for information after a cat was injured with an air pellet.

The cat went outside in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, March 24 and returned to its home on Leygate View at 8am after being shot in the neck.

PCSO Lee Baker of the New Mills and Hayfield Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “In this case the cat has had to undergo surgery to remove the pellet and is currently being cared for by the vet, causing the owner to face expenses of more than £1600.

“While officers are currently investigating the incident, we are taking the opportunity to encourage those residents who may not like cats visiting their garden to find humane ways to deter them and hopefully prevent any similar incidents from taking place.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Donna Neale on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
