The festive spirit is in full flow at a Burbage church which is inviting people to pop in and enjoy its Christmas Tree Festival over the next week.

Christ Church Burbage, on St John’s Road, launched the festival on Tuesday and it will run each afternoon, from 2pm until 4pm, through to Christmas Eve. It will also be open on New Year’s Eve.

The festival will also include Christmas gifts on sale with all proceeds going to the church roof fund.

Church warden, Margaret Foster, said: “After Easter we need to raise £50,000 for the roof. We have raised £200,000 so far and need £500,000 altogether.

“This is the final phase and every penny raised for the church goes towards getting it finished.

“It’s so much warmer in the church now because it has been insulated.”

Everybody is welcome to attend the Christmas tree festival.

Burbage Band will perform a Christmas concert at the church on Sunday afternoon at 2.30pm. Margaret said she expected the church to be packed.

A nativity was also performed at the church on Tuesday by children from Burbage Pre-school.
