Plans to demolish the former Peak Dale Methodist Church and replace it with six houses have been refused by High Peak Borough Council planners.

The application for the site, on Upper End Road, was submitted by Buxton Methodist Circuit, but authority planners felt it “failed to respect the character and appearance of the village” and the layout would lead to overlooking of adjacent dwellings, leading to an “unacceptable detrimental impact on the amenities of adjoining occupiers.”

Local residents had previously voiced their shock at the plans, which came within three months of the church closing.

And Wormhill Parish Council also wrote to the borough council outlining their objections.
