LEAVING on a high note is Christine Hodkinson who has retired from teaching music in two local schools.

In a career spanning 45 years, Christine has taught generations of children how to play stringed instruments.

She started her career in Leicestershire, before moving with husband Andrew to Rotherham via Reykjavik in Iceland – and has spent the last 28 years teaching in Buxton schools.

She was given a wonderful send off by children at Harpur Hill Primary and Buxton Junior Schools who performed two final concerts.

Christine said she felt an important part of her teaching was in getting children to enjoy playing music together in school or Music Centre ensembles.

She will continue to be involved in music and was recently seen conducting the combined Buxton and Bakewell Junior String Orchestra of the Peak District Music Centres at a concert performed at the Buxton Opera House.

Both Christine and Andrew are to continue their involvement with the Peak District Music Centres and orchestras.
