Tideswell Male Voice Choir is singing with delight after local county councillor Simon Spencer made a generous £250 donation towards the restoration of the choir’s new headquarters in the Old Grammar School in Tideswell.
All choirs relish the opportunity to acquire a long term “home” with rehearsal space, music library and wardrobe/equipment storage facilities. Tideswell Male Voice Choir is no exception, and having realised this aspiration, it has enabled the choir to put down firm roots in the village.
The building will also be available to other clubs and organisations in the community.
Dennis Kay, Principal Conductor and Director of Music, said: “The costs associated with the renovation of this historic building have been substantial and, thanks to the benevolence of our main sponsor M. Markovitz Ltd and other supporters, we have achieved our goal.
“I am delighted that Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council member for Dovedale, has arranged for a contribution of £250 to the funding of this venture from the Members Community Leadership Scheme.
“Without such wonderful support, the choir would not be able to enjoy the undoubted benefits from having a new home.”
